DUTCH LOTTERY

The “Low Countries” of present-day Netherlands & Belgium first recorded L'Ecluse lottery to offer tickets for sale with prizes in the form of money used to raising funds to build walls and town fortifications.

The first recorded Italian lottery was organized by the Golden Ambrosian Republic in Milan to finance the war against the Republic of Venice.

The earliest known American Lottery was recorded when King James of England created a lottery to provide funds to Jamestown, Virginia, the first permanent British settlement in North America.

La Primitiva (“The Primitive One”), is run by Loterias y Apuestas del Estado even to this day. It is interesting to note that the Spanish government started its first game on December 10th, 1763.
